One of the most important parts of The Miracle League is the "Buddy System." Buddies are volunteers who play baseball with their paired special needs players, helping them in whatever capacity is needed. As a buddy, safety for your player should be your first consideration, and encouraging them to have fun a very close second. Check out this video of the San Diego Buddies to see how much fun being a buddy can be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcfO9-hZBC8
Buddy goals are as follows:
- to protect the Miracle League player at all times
- When a hard hitter is up to bat, Buddies are to step in front of the Miracle League player for protection.
- Always allow the Miracle league player as much freedom as possible to play his/her own game.
- Assist Miracle League player according to their needs.
- Be of good spirit with enthusiasm in motivation the players and their families.
- Arrive at field 15 minutes prior to game time.
- Demonstrate high morals and integrity on and off the field.
